NAGPUR: In a packed Scientific Hall, Nagpurians witnessed the compelling play ‘Sandhya Chhaya,’ penned by renowned Marathi writer Jaywant Dalvi, whose birth centenary is being celebrated this year. The play, written nearly fifty years ago, explores the mental and psychological struggles of elderly couples facing loneliness and isolation, a theme still relevant today.
As cities like Nagpur transform into hubs for retired individuals, ‘Sandhya Chhaya’ resonates deeply, depicting parents yearning for their children who have moved abroad. The standout performances by Prafulla Mategaonkar as ‘Nana’ and Dr. Deeplaxmi Bhat as ‘Nani’ highlighted the emotional turmoil of parents coping with separation from their sons.
Produced by ‘Manini Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha’ in memory of the late Shri Dilip Bhat, the play featured excellent direction by Shri Ramesh Lakhmapure and technical support from Kabir Lakhmapure. The heartfelt performances and strong audience response underline the play’s enduring impact and the thriving theatre scene in Nagpur.
